Juneyao Airlines Plans to Order 25 A320 Family Aircraft, Valued at Approximately USD 4.1 Billion (Online Article)

Two Chinese airlines have jointly placed a major year-end order with Airbus (AIR-PA), committing more than USD 8 billion in aircraft purchases. On December 29, Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines separately announced plans to acquire a combined total of 55 Airbus A320 family aircraft, with a total list price of approximately USD 8.23 billion, underscoring the clear recovery momentum of the post-pandemic aviation market.
While both transactions remain subject to government approval, their successful completion would further strengthen Airbus’s footprint in the Chinese market and reinforce its long-term strategic position in the region.
According to the official announcements, Spring Airlines plans to purchase 30 A320neo aircraft with a total value not exceeding USD 4.13 billion. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2028 and 2032, supporting the airline’s medium- to long-haul network development.
Juneyao Airlines, for its part, intends to order 25 A320 family aircraft with an estimated value of approximately USD 4.1 billion, with deliveries also expected between 2028 and 2032.
Meanwhile, China and Europe continue to engage in negotiations over potentially larger aircraft procurement agreements. According to earlier reports, since 2024, China and Airbus have been in intensive discussions regarding a possible order of up to 500 aircraft. Although the deal has yet to be finalized, Airbus confirmed earlier this month that China has agreed to take delivery of 120 previously ordered aircraft, signaling a positive gesture of cooperation.
Industry observers believe that the joint orders by Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines represent a strategic bet by carriers on the continued recovery of passenger demand over the coming years. The transactions also highlight China’s pivotal role in the global aviation supply chain. For Airbus, China remains a strategic market that cannot be overlooked.
