Royal Jordanian: Flights suspended to countries with closed airspace If any country closes its airspace, operations to that destination will be suspended until it reopens, said the CEO. AMMAN — Royal Jordanian (RJ) Airlines CEO Samer Majali on Sunday said that whenever any country closes its airspace, RJ suspends its flights to that destination.

His remarks come amid regional tensions following military strikes launched by Israel and the United States on Iran on Saturday. Speaking to Al Mamlaka TV, Majali stressed that the RJ is keen to ensure the safety of its passengers, noting that flights to Syria, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar remain suspended due to the closure of their airspace.

Asked about Jordanians stranded at airports, he said that there are no passengers currently stranded. Majali expressed his appreciation to the government, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission for their significant efforts to keep Jordan’s airspace open, albeit with temporary suspensions of air traffic at certain times due to security conditions.

He noted that all RJ flights to Europe, the United States, North Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon departed on Saturday with delays, while return flights from Europe and those regions resumed according to schedule later that evening.

Operations to Iraq, Syria and Gulf countries, he added, remain suspended as long as their airspace is closed. Flights to Europe, the United States, Egypt, North Africa, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon are operating according to schedule, with minor delays depending on prevailing conditions, he said, adding that the suspension to the affected countries will remain in place until their airspace reopens.

Regarding diverted flights, Majali said that no flights were diverted, as Jordan’s airspace has remained operational. “Royal Jordanian is here to serve anyone abroad or in Jordan,” he added. Regarding contingency measures, he said that the airline will maintain its current approach as long as Jordan’s airspace remains open.

If any country closes its airspace, operations to that destination will be suspended until it reopens, said the CEO. He noted that passengers travelling via Jordan to Syria are being transported by buses from Queen Alia International Airport to Damascus and back, instead of flying. On stranded passengers, Majali said that, to the airline’s knowledge, no Jordanians are currently stranded. He added that some passengers travelling with other airlines or with Royal Jordanian to Gulf destinations are at Queen Alia International Airport awaiting the resumption of flights to those countries.

Two Chinese airlines have jointly placed a major year-end order with Airbus (AIR-PA), committing more than USD 8 billion in aircraft purchases. On December 29, Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines separately announced plans to acquire a combined total of 55 Airbus A320 family aircraft, with a total list price of approximately USD 8.23 billion, underscoring the clear recovery momentum of the post-pandemic aviation market.

While both transactions remain subject to government approval, their successful completion would further strengthen Airbus’s footprint in the Chinese market and reinforce its long-term strategic position in the region.

According to the official announcements, Spring Airlines plans to purchase 30 A320neo aircraft with a total value not exceeding USD 4.13 billion. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2028 and 2032, supporting the airline’s medium- to long-haul network development.

Juneyao Airlines, for its part, intends to order 25 A320 family aircraft with an estimated value of approximately USD 4.1 billion, with deliveries also expected between 2028 and 2032.

Meanwhile, China and Europe continue to engage in negotiations over potentially larger aircraft procurement agreements. According to earlier reports, since 2024, China and Airbus have been in intensive discussions regarding a possible order of up to 500 aircraft. Although the deal has yet to be finalized, Airbus confirmed earlier this month that China has agreed to take delivery of 120 previously ordered aircraft, signaling a positive gesture of cooperation.

Industry observers believe that the joint orders by Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines represent a strategic bet by carriers on the continued recovery of passenger demand over the coming years. The transactions also highlight China’s pivotal role in the global aviation supply chain. For Airbus, China remains a strategic market that cannot be overlooked.

Expanding Northern China Market and Partnering with the Industry to Develop Transit Products to Balance Seasonal Demand

With years of dedicated market development, Juneyao Airlines has established itself not only as a stable and well-regarded carrier across the Taiwan–Mainland China market, but also as a key option for travelers connecting to global destinations. In recent years, the airline has continued to deepen cross-airline cooperation through network expansion, global market planning, and its planned official entry into Star Alliance in the second half of the year, aiming to deliver safer and more convenient travel experiences for passengers worldwide.

In the cross-strait market, Juneyao Airlines currently operates direct flights from both Taipei and Kaohsiung to Shanghai, providing onward connections to a wide range of intercontinental destinations, including Athens, Helsinki, Manchester, and Brussels. Mr. Tang Shuai, General Manager of Juneyao Airlines Taiwan Branch, noted that Shanghai serves as the airline’s primary hub. Leveraging this hub, Juneyao Airlines plans to further develop northern China markets that currently have limited direct cross-strait services, including culturally and naturally distinctive second- and third-tier cities such as Dunhuang, Lanzhou, Zhongwei, Yili, and Altay in Xinjiang, thereby filling existing market gaps.

On the international front, the airline intends to strengthen and expand its cooperation on the Manchester route, working closely with Taiwanese travel industry partners to enhance exposure of long-haul destinations. Through tailored product design, Juneyao Airlines also seeks to mitigate the impact of seasonal fluctuations and balance peak and off-peak demand.

In terms of capacity deployment, aligned with the Spring Festival travel season, Juneyao Airlines will implement partial aircraft substitutions on selected cross-strait routes from January 30 to March 26, upgrading from Airbus A321 aircraft to Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft. This adjustment will offer increased Business Class capacity and enhanced onboard services to better accommodate the needs of business travelers, family visits, and cross-strait exchanges. Subject to overall performance, the airline will further evaluate the feasibility of operating wide-body aircraft on direct routes on a longer-term basis.

Mr. Tang emphasized that Juneyao Airlines, as a full-service carrier, delivers a high standard of service quality and currently holds the Star Alliance Connecting Partner designation. The airline is expected to officially become a Star Alliance member between August and September this year. Following full membership, Juneyao Airlines will be able to integrate resources with other alliance members, including Air China and EVA Air, enabling smoother flight connections and mutual recognition of premium frequent flyer benefits, thereby further enhancing its overall competitiveness.

The post Juneyao Airlines Strengthens Global Presence, Plans to Join Star Alliance in the Second Half of the Year (Online Article) first appeared on 華速國際企業.

Royal Jordanian Airlines has been recognised for its exceptional punctuality, ranking second in on-time performance across the Middle East and Africa for 2025. According to a report by Cirium, a global aviation analytics firm, the airline achieved a performance rate exceeding 90%, placing it among the top five airlines worldwide for on-time arrivals.

This accolade highlights the efficiency and discipline of Royal Jordanian’s operational system, which has maintained high standards despite regional challenges. Vice Chairman and CEO Samer Majali attributed this success to the integrated efforts of the airline’s workforce, who deliver services with professionalism. “Maintaining this advanced performance level is a national responsibility,” Majali stated, emphasising the airline’s commitment to investing in its people and enhancing operational performance.

The Cirium report, based on a year-long analysis of operational data from hundreds of airlines globally, underscores the credibility of Royal Jordanian’s ranking. This achievement not only reinforces the airline’s reputation but also strengthens Jordan’s position on the global aviation map.

Founded in 1963, Royal Jordanian Airlines operates a modern fleet, including Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners and Airbus A320neo, connecting Jordan to over 55 destinations worldwide. As a member of the oneworld alliance, the airline offers access to nearly 900 destinations globally, continuing to innovate and expand its services to meet the evolving needs of travellers.

Avolon has agreed to lease two Airbus A321neo aircraft to Royal Jordanian Airlines adding to to the eight A320neos that Avolon agreed to lease to the airline earlier this year, of which seven have already been delivered. The delivery was announced at the Dubai Airshow, with the aircraft to be delivered in 2027 and 2028.

The new aircraft will support Royal Jordanian’s fleet expansion strategy in key markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, and its transition to new technology aircraft. The A321neo delivers 20% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions compared to previous-generation Airbus narrowbody aircraft, and 50% noise reduction.

Royal Jordanian currently flies to 50 destinations and is planning to grow its fleet to 41 aircraft by 2028. Avolon had 347 A320neo family aircraft on order as of 30 September 2025.

Paul Geaney, President and Chief Commercial Officer of Avolon, commented: “It is a pleasure to be extending our partnership with Royal Jordanian with this additional lease of two A321neos. It follows on from our agreement to lease eight A320neos earlier this year and shows our ability to use our large orderbook to support the airline’s fleet expansion plans with new technology, lower emissions aircraft.”

Samer Majali, Vice Chairman and CEO of Royal Jordanian, commented: “Our continued partnership with Avolon is an integral part of Royal Jordanian’s fleet modernisation journey. The addition of these new A321neos supports our growth strategy across the region and reinforces our commitment to operating one of the most efficient and environmentally responsible fleets in the Middle East. These next-generation aircraft will enhance our guests’ travel experience while advancing our goal to position Amman as the leading gateway to the Levant.”

Air Astana has committed to a major fleet modernisation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding for up to 50 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. This would be the largest ever order placed by the airline, comprising of 25 firm aircraft and 25 purchase options.

The agreement includes a mix of Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, with the first deliveries starting in 2031. The majority of the aircraft will be allocated to the Airbus A321LR, a version of the aircraft of which Air Astana was one of the first airlines to install a deluxe configuration, for deployment on its pioneering long-haul services to Asia and Europe. Air Astana’s operation of the A321LR over the past five years has set the standard for new operators of the type around the world. This order would be in addition to one announced earlier this month and remains subject to shareholder approval.

“Air Astana’s large order for a new fleet of Airbus A320neo family aircraft reflects a commitment to maintaining its reputation for operational efficiency and service excellence in the long term,” said Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana. “The Airbus A320neo family has proven to be an outstanding success in service with Air Astana over many years and I’m confident that the new fleet will continue to boost sustainable growth and profitability in the long term.”

Air Astana introduced the first Airbus A320ceo into the fleet in 2006, with the aircraft operated on the airline’s domestic network and services to international destinations in Central Asia and the Caucasus. The first new generation Airbus A320neo family aircraft joined the fleet in November 2016 and was followed by first Airbus A321LR in September 2019. Airbus A321LR aircraft are operated on long-haul routes to destinations in Asia and Europe.

The Air Astana Group currently operates a fleet of 62 aircraft, including 59 Airbus A320 family aircraft, split between Air Astana, the full-service airline and FlyArystan, its low-cost airline.

Kazakhstan carrier, Air Astana Group, has reported strong Q3 revenue and capacity growth despite facing several external challenges during the peak summer season.

For the nine-month period ending September 30, 2025, the Group, which comprises the full service airline Air Astana and low-fare subsidiary FlyArystan, saw total revenue and other income increase by 10.1% to USD 1,097 million, up from USD 996 million in the same period last year.

This growth was supported by a 10.5% rise in passenger numbers, with the airline carrying 7.5 million passengers, compared to 6.8 million in Q3 2024, while maintaining a stable average load factor of 83%.

The airline also reported a 3.5% improvement in earnings before interest, taxes and other deductions, attributing the gain to a combination of dynamic capacity allocation and effective yield management.

However, capacity and profitability were negatively affected by several external factors over the quarter, typically the airline’s strongest period.

Unforeseen maintenance issues with Pratt and Whitney engines; the weakening of the Kazakh Tenge against the US Dollar and disruptions from temporary closures combined to create an adverse operating environment.

Air Astana CEO, Peter Foster, said the airline’s ability to improve financial performance despite the considerable challenges was testament to its agility.

“While it is frustrating to encounter these issues during our peak season, we are agile operators with a track record of navigating external headwinds,” he said.
